Quick Start Tutorial
Create your first zero-knowledge vault, add a password and a file, and activate your on-chain subscription—in under 10 minutes.
1) Install & Launch
Download bervice for your OS and open the app. If you haven’t installed it yet, see the Installation Guide.
2) Create Your Vault
- Click Create a new vault.
- Choose a vault location (default is fine for now).
- Set a strong master password. This never leaves your device.
3) Secure Your Recovery
Save your recovery material—either a seed phrase or a key file—somewhere offline (USB or paper). Without it, nobody (including us) can restore your data.
4) Activate Subscription
- Open Settings → Subscription.
- Connect a supported wallet and select a plan.
- Confirm the on-chain transaction; the app will show Active once finalized.
You can continue using the app while the transaction confirms; items will sync as soon as the state is active.
5) Add Your First Items
Add a password
- Click New → Password.
- Enter title, username, and password (use the generator if needed).
- Save. The item is encrypted locally and synced.
Add a file
- Click New → File and pick a document.
- bervice encrypts client-side, chunks, and uploads to decentralized storage.
6) Organize & Search
Use tags (e.g., personal
, work
) and collections to keep items organized. The global search operates on encrypted indexes—no plaintext is exposed to servers.
7) Optional: Share Securely
To share a password or file, open the item → Share → choose recipient. bervice encrypts the item key to the recipient’s public key. You can revoke access anytime.
8) Backups & Updates
- Keep your recovery seed or key file backed up offline.
- Enable auto-update in Settings → Updates to receive signed releases.
That’s it—you now have an active, zero-knowledge vault with your first encrypted items. Next, explore the Features Overview or configure advanced options in Security.
