Managing Files
Store, organize, preview, and share files with end-to-end encryption. This guide covers uploads, version history, sharing, large-file strategies, and integrity checks—all without exposing plaintext to servers.
What You Can Do
- Upload/download with local-first encryption
- Preview common formats (images, PDFs, text)
- Keep versions and restore anytime
Organization
- Use Spaces/Vaults for separation
- Add tags and descriptions
- Pin frequent files to the dashboard
Security
- AEAD encryption per file chunk
- Integrity tags detect tampering
- Keys never leave your device
Add Files
Desktop App
- Click New → File or drag & drop into a Space
- Optionally add a title, tags, and notes
- Keep the app open until upload completes
Large files are chunked and uploaded in parallel.
Browser Extension
- Right-click → Save to bervice for images/PDFs
- Use the quick panel to attach files to items
Preview
- Inline viewers for images, PDFs, and text
- Open in side panel to keep context
- No external viewers receive plaintext
Metadata & Notes
- Title, description, and tags
- Custom fields for owners and expiry
- Checksum displayed for verification
Linking to Items
- Attach files to credentials/notes
- Keep recovery codes as a file attachment
Version History
- Each upload creates a new version
- Restore or download any previous version
- Change notes help explain updates
Integrity & Verification
- Compare checksums after download
- Run Integrity check to verify chunks
- Corrupt blocks re-fetch automatically
Share Securely
- Move file into a Team Space to share
- Choose Viewer or Can edit per role
- Revoke by removing from the shared space
Only item keys are re-wrapped—never your master key.
Access & Audit
- Activity feed shows views, edits, and versions
- Export events to SIEM via webhooks
Large Files & Performance
- Prefer SSD for cache; keep 2–5 GB free
- Batch very large uploads (2–5 GB per batch)
- Keep app in foreground until uploads finish
- Pause background indexing during imports
- Throttle concurrency in Settings → Performance
- Exclude cache path from aggressive AV scanning
See Performance & Sync.
Offline Work
- Open cached files while offline
- New uploads queue until connectivity returns
- Conflicts prompt you to choose a version
Sync Tips
- Ensure automatic time sync on all devices
- Use reliable networks for large transfers
- Check System Status during incidents
Troubleshooting
- Upload stuck: Toggle Sync off/on; try another network
- “File too large”: Split into parts and upload sequentially
- Preview fails: Download to open in a native viewer
- Integrity error: Run Integrity check; re-fetch chunks
- Slow sync: Reduce concurrency; exclude cache from AV
