Performance & Sync Issues

Fix slow launch, high CPU/RAM, laggy UI, and delayed sync. Start with the quick checklist, then follow the OS-specific tips. If the issue looks widespread, check System Status.

Quick Checklist

  • Update to the latest signed app version
  • Ensure vault is unlocked and device time is auto-synced
  • Restart the app; toggle Settings → Sync off/on
  • Try another network (mobile hotspot vs. office/VPN)
  • Verify free disk space (≥ 2–5 GB recommended) and SSD health

Slow Launch / High CPU

  • Large vault? Enable Settings → Performance → Lazy load
  • Disable animated/real-time previews in Settings → Appearance
  • Add app/cache to AV/Defender allow-list
  • Close other heavy apps; check Activity Monitor/Task Manager for conflicts

Sync Delays / Stuck “Pending”

  • Check /status for incidents
  • Clock skew breaks signatures—enable auto time sync
  • Corporate proxy/VPN: allow the app domains/ports or test on a clean network
  • Large file in queue—keep app in foreground until “Uploaded” appears

Windows

  • Windows Security → Ransomware protection → Allow app paths
  • Power Options: set to High performance, disable sleep during big syncs
  • NIC offload issues: update network drivers

macOS

  • Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access for the app (if prompted)
  • Disable iCloud/AV scanning the cache folder
  • Energy Saver: prevent sleep while syncing

Linux

  • Install required libfuse/glibc versions
  • Check AppArmor/SELinux rules for cache path
  • Use ext4/xfs locally; avoid flaky network shares for cache

Network & Proxy Settings

  • Disable VPN/proxy briefly to compare performance
  • If proxy is required, configure it in Settings → Network and allow WebSocket traffic
  • Packet inspection can throttle chunked uploads—add bypass rules for the app
  • Switch DNS (e.g., to a public resolver) to rule out slow lookups

Cache & Database

  • Settings → Storage → Compact database (reduces IO)
  • Limit cache size; clear previews if thumbnails lag
  • Keep cache on a fast local SSD (avoid network paths)

Large Vault Strategies

  • Archive rarely used items; split into spaces/vaults
  • Pause background indexing during imports
  • Batch large file uploads (2–5 GB per batch)

Advanced Diagnostics

  1. Reproduce the issue; note local time and time zone
  2. Open Settings → Help → Export logs (review to avoid plaintext)
  3. Attach logs, OS version, and steps when you submit a ticket
  4. For sensitive traces, encrypt with our PGP key
